Now our party consists of five members. Matthias the bard, Rurick the fighter, Aeron the rogue, Cecil the paladin and Wan the psion. They decided to explore the upstairs area before heading through the elaborate double doors that seemed to signal Decius's room.

During the exploration, Aeron heard a noise in the banquet room. He then heard some more shouts. After all of this, he decided he needed to check this out. Aeron slowly entered the room but there seemed to be no one inside. But as he peered further inside a bolt whized right by his face from Decius's doorway. Alarmed by this surprise attack, the party prepared themselves for more battle. Just as they began to approach the door a Ray of Frost flew through the doorway and slammed into a wall near Matthias.

That was enough. The party slowly entered Decius's room. As they peeked inside, they seemed to find no visible creatures. Matthias found a chest on a desk and, in a fit of rage, attempted to smash it. When he failed to break the chest, a hidden drow under the desk swang his shortshord at Matthias, landing his blow. Wan immediately recognizes this drow as the man who confronted him in the banquet room. Yet another battle breaks out. Wan soon realizes that there is an invisible wizard somewhere in the room, presumably Decius. Just as this happens, two magic missles zoom toward him. The battle rages on until Wan gets Decius in a manifestation of Biocurrent and Aeron gets the drow flanked and lands a marvelous flurry of dagger blows.

It seems the party will prevail, but it is not quite over yet. The drow tumbles under Matthias, covers himself with his cape and launches himself out of the stained glass window on the back wall of the room. Decius prompty collapes as the party tries to figure out what to do. Aeron has no doubts. He is soon out the window in pursuit of the drow. Matthias thinks quickly: He tells Cecil and Rurick to help Aeron in his pursuit while he and Wan will deal with Decius.

After his miraculous leap of faith, the drow lands outside the mansion and takes off. He hops on his horse but is cornered by Aeron, Cecil and Rurick. He makes a last ditch effort to flee, but is struck by a crossbow bolt and falls off his horse, dead.

These three heros then quickly return to the mansion and Decius. The party awakens Decius for questioning. They find that the drow, Ruki, is also from the City of Shade. Decius says he is researching the strange formation outside and has been using the slave encampment as a source of funding for this research. Decius goes on to say that Ruki had persuaded him into using slavery as a research resource. The powers of Ruki and the desire for power corrupted this man. Decius then vows to change his ways and offers his services to the party.
