Character Creation Guidelines :

  1. Check with the DM. Notify me of the race and class you want to play. If you need to do any of the other steps to decide (such as roll stats), that's fine, but let me know ASAP. This is for me to okay any non-standard races, and to aid me in campaign design, and to make changes to the party's class composition if necessary. Also, if you have decided you would like to swap racial and/or class abilities for something else, talk to me about that. (It's okay if you think of it later, just see me ASAP.)
  2. Get stats. Either roll 4d6 drop lowest (arrange to taste) in front of me or choose from the non-standard array.
  3. Write a background. It should work with the campaign world. Preferably, the background should mention one NPC (preferably more), the character's hometown, at least one major long-term goal, and how and why your character chose his class(es) and began adventuring. It should also cover everything in the section on background in the Hero Builder's Guidebook that you feel is applicable. If, during this stage, you think of racial and/or class abilities you would like to swap for others, see me ASAP.

NOTE:Please add to your history as you go along. Periodically look at it and decide if you could add anything to it. Feel free to make stuff up during play. If you want to say that someone reminds you of your uncle or is your cousin or is your old girlfriend, etc., that's fine. Just go overboard with it; not everyone can be related or acquainted to you, and only rarely if ever can someone of a different race be your relative. (Obviously half-elves and half-orcs have relatives of different races, but most of them are not related to any dwarves, gnomes, or halflings.)

  4. Decide on a personality. (You probably have some idea from the background.) Pick two or three words or phrases to describe your character's "core concept". You may pick more if you want. For example, "charming scoundrel," "cold," "doesn't lie," "refers to himself in third person" or "antidisestablishmentarian." Write these down on a piece of paper. Remember them and try to roleplay by them.
  5. Get a character sketch. It doesn't matter who draws it or how good it is, as long as it's what the character "really" looks like. May be on the character sheet or a seperate sheet kept with the character sheet.
  6. (optional) Complete the alignment quiz in the Hero Builder's Guidebook. From your character's point of view, not yours. See me if you need the book.

    Non-Standard Array

Very simple. Pick from one of the following arrays, arrange scores however you want, and then add racial modifiers.
